Thomas Kelly > Dattatraya, one of the finest and most renowned temples in Bhaktapur, is situated in Tachapal Tol and houses images of Shiva, Brahma and Dattatraya, the Hindu trinity. The entrance is protected by the legendary wrestlers of Bhaktapur, Jai Mal and Patta, who are flanked by the symbols of the deities inside. An image of Garuda is set on a pillar before the temple.

Thomas Kelly > The great contributors to the cultural heritage of Nepal were from the Mall dynasty, founded in 1350 by Jayasthith Malla. Their six-hundred year reign ushered in many great artistic and architectural achievements. One of the spirit patrons of art and architecture in the sixth-century period was Bhupatindra Malla (16596-1722) of Bhaktapur, shown here praying before the golden gate entrance to the Taleju Temple.
